JCB J/Speedy — EMVCo Kernel 5

JCB J/Speedy (Kernel 5): no TTQ — standard 9F33/9F40 terminal capabilities plus the Terminal Interchange Profile (9F53) and card-provided Device Information (9F6E).

Overview

Kernel 5 is the EMVCo contactless kernel for JCB J/Speedy. It does not use a TTQ. Reader capability is expressed through the standard Terminal Capabilities (9F33) and Additional Terminal Capabilities (9F40) tags.

Per transaction the reader sends the Terminal Compatibility Indicator (9F52, which modes the kernel supports) and the Terminal Interchange Profile (9F53, b 3: reader CVM requirement and other reader capabilities such as online and contact EMV capability), and the card may return Device Information (9F6E) describing its form factor and capabilities.

No TTQ — standard capability tags + 9F53

Kernel 5 relies on 9F33 / 9F40 for terminal capabilities. The Terminal Interchange Profile (9F53) tells the card the reader CVM requirement and capabilities for this transaction, and 9F6E (Device Information) is supplied by the card rather than the terminal. (9F53 is the Transaction Category Code only for Mastercard: M/Chip and Kernel 2.)

Cardholder verification

CVM is resolved from the card CVM list against the reader CVM requirement in the Terminal Interchange Profile (9F53); below the reader CVM-required limit a tap may proceed with no CVM.
