Schema: mandatory elements, Max35/140 text lengths, ISODate/ISODateTime (real calendar dates and times, optional offset), amounts (18 digits, currency minor units), ISO 4217 currencies, ISO 3166-1 countries (the 249 assigned codes — UK, EU and withdrawn codes are errors; XK is flagged as user-assigned), BIC format, IBAN pattern (no spaces), length and mod-97, UUID v4 UETRs. Usage: common bank practice that the schema leaves optional (creditor and creditor account on pain.001, a reason on a generic rejection). Consistency: NbOfTxs and CtrlSum per group and payment block, pacs.008 and pacs.004 totals, camt.053 opening + booked entries = closing and the transaction summary, camt.053/054 transaction details against their entry and batch count. Returns (pacs.004): returned amount, a reference to the original payment, the return reason (decoded, NARR needs AddtlInf) and returned amount not above the original. CBPR+: one transaction, UETR (original UETR on returns), settlement method INDA/INGA/COVE on pacs.008 and INDA/INGA on pacs.004, DEBT/CRED/SHAR, instructing/instructed agents, settlement date, return and reject reasons, Business Application Header. SEPA: EUR, SLEV, IBANs, creditor name, amount range, one 140-character remittance, basic Latin characters, reference format. Addresses: unstructured postal addresses are flagged; structured or hybrid (TwnNm + Ctry, at most two AdrLine) pass. The November 2026 end-dates were deferred — CBPR+: Swift deferred the 14 November 2026 cutover on 27 August 2026; a new date is expected by December 2026; SEPA: the EPC delayed the 15 November 2026 end-date on 9 September 2026 and will set a new one.
