What it is

POS Entry Mode is a single numeric byte (n 2) describing how the PAN was captured: manual key entry, magnetic stripe, contact chip or contactless. It is the first two digits of the ISO 8583:1987 POS entry mode; the PIN entry capability digit of the ISO 8583 field is not part of it.

Where it appears

Set by the terminal based on how the card was read.
